it is done :)

2007 - North Wall panelling and plaster removal:

Because of serious damp problems a French Drain was installed along the north wall. Now the internal wooden panelling and plaster has to be removed so that the wall can dry out. Once dry, the remedial work can be undertaken. Estimated cost is £2,000 - most of the work being undertaken by local working parties.  If you feel you would like to support this work financially, please make contact, every donation is very much appreciated.  E:mail: info@rowlstone.org or use the 'DONATE' button at foot of this page, thank you.

Saturday 30th June 2007, as usual people from Rowlstone (and further afield) rallied round to undertake the start of the work on the panelling on the north wall.  The following pictures tell the story of that day (in fact just a morning).

Carpet removal          and                 under the carpet

Out come the pews        and                 the panelling comes off

Plaster being removed with cleaning parties ready and waiting.

The wall is in good shape but some of the joists look damp!

Coffee break (just two of them)              back to work with Supervision!!

Part of the floorboards are removed so that the architect can advise on the joists

....after the cleaning the storing ready for architect's visit

Ready for services

More floorboards coming up on Monday evening (23rd July) - little by little to see what needs to be done.

Hard at work removing the boards - the whole floor may need to be replaced :(

The damp has done its worst                                        a view under the boards looking towards the aisle

........and now, 1st September it has all gone

So far all local support - if you wish to donate to the new floor, please e-mail

...what was a repair is a replacement!!

...phew, nearly done

...and Martin Griffiths has done a brilliant job

Just the pews and some paint now

...and it is done, phew

Thank you to everyone that helped in any way to make this project a great success and Kilpeck for a generous donation of £1,000 towards the costs.  Entering 2008, we look at the window repair and yes, the other side of the aisle!

Serious erosion has taken place to the stone work that holds the plain, yet beautiful, window in place. It is beyond repair and now has to have some major work. We have received an estimate for the repair, you must sit down - £10,000!!!
